Recovery Capitals, or ReCap, supports wellbeing after disasters with evidence-based resources for people and organisations engaged in recovery.
ReCap was winner of the 2022 EMPA Award for Excellence in Emergency Communication (Recovery) and was joint-winner of the 2021 Resilient Australia National Mental Health and Wellbeing Award.
ReCap has contributed to a series of podcasts on disaster recovery - After the Disaster.
After the Disaster has been produced with the support of the ABC, Australian Red Cross and the University of Melbourne. Thanks to Bushfire Recovery Victoria and the Bushfire Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre for project funding support.
This video introduces the Recovery Capitals (ReCap) resources, and outlines how they can help in guiding recovery as well as disaster preparedness.
Lisa discusses the ReCap resources and the evidence base behind them.
This video follows Rowena Frost, Municipal Recovery Manager for the Surf Coast Shire Council in Victoria, as she explores the research findings and ReCap Guide with Prof Lisa Gibbs from the University of Melbourne, learning how to use the research to improve relief and recovery with her local community.
We've written a peer-reviewed article to share insights from the process of developing the Recovery Capitals resources and framework.
ReCap is hosted on the Phoenix Australia Disaster Mental Health Hub.

ReCap is a collaboration across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live and work, and pay our respects to the cultures, Country and Elders past and present of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia. We also acknowledge Māori as tangata whenua of Aotearoa New Zealand. The ReCap project has been deeply enhanced by contributions of Indigenous team members and partners across both countries. We recognise the continuing connection to land, waters, culture and community of Indigenous peoples and the role this plays in disaster recovery.
